Shadow Day Feedback

On the bus ride back to Boone the students shared with me how much they enjoyed the event, and how their classroom lessons "made much more sense and clicked" for them while spending the day shadowing at the various organizations.  Most of our students who participated in your Shadow Day were Juniors who had not traveled off-campus yet, so this day was very impactful for them.  The day re-affirmed their desire to work in the Industry upon graduation.  The students also commented how nice, friendly and helpful each person was to them during the day.

Scholarship support from your RIMS members is critical for our students, and we are very grateful for this financial investment.  The investment of your members with their time and expertise, truly makes a tremendous positive impact, too.  On the morning bus ride to Charlotte I shared with the students that Shadow Day is one of my most favorite days every year.  Over the weekend I received a very nice e-mail from one of our students who referenced my comments - and shared how she, too, thought this Shadow Day was one of the best experiences she has had as a college student.  What you are doing with Shadow Day works very well for our App State students, and I hope that even more than 17 may experience the benefits next spring.

April Luncheon - Social Media As A Discovery Tool

Join us on Thursday, April 21 for lunch and presentation: Social media as a discovery tool: an examination of using social media to effectively defend claims, presented by David Padgett and William Littlejohn of Holder, Padgett, Littlejohn and Prickett. In this presentation we will discuss using social media to obtain evidence to show fraud, prove Claimants are exaggerating their pain and limitations, or portraying their employer in a negative manner.  We will examine the admissibility of social media evidence, strategic decisions on when to use the evidence, examples of successfully using social media and the changing landscape of social media.

Student Shadow Day - March 18, 2016

The Carolinas RIMS Chapter is pleased to once again host Shadow Day on March 18, 2016 for rising Risk Management professionals from our partner universities (Appalachian University and UNC Charlotte). This is an opportunity for the Carolinas RIMS Deputy and Associate members to spend time mentoring students who have expressed an interest in the Risk Management arena including Broker, Claims, Risk Manager and Underwriting roles.  

The students will designate their first and second choice fields and the goal will be to match up the student with a Deputy or Associate member whose company can showcase “a day in the life of” their selected profession. The day will end with a dinner for all participants where the students will give a brief overview of their experience.  

Please complete the sign up form where you can designate your selection of one or two students along with the option of selecting a  preferred university. We will do our best to match up all requests. Please submit this form by February 24.
